WHAT IS THE ACADEMIC ROLE OF THE PARENT AT SERLING?

The parent serves as teacher-at-home for grades K-3 and gradually transitions to the role of mentor as the student becomes increasingly more independent in grades 4-12. In the lower grades, the parent truly is a teacher and, therefore, is expected to become familiar with the curriculum and basic teaching techniques. Parents will be more involved on home days in the lower grades, however all new concepts are taught at school.

 WHICH DAYS WILL MY CHILD ATTEND CLASS AT STERLING?

Students in K-4th grades attend classes on Tuesday and Thursday with optional Campus Days offered on Mondays & Wednesdays. Students in 5th-8th grades attend classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with an optional Campus Day offered on Wednesdays. Students in 9th-12th grades attend classes Monday through Thursday.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE STUDENT ON A TYPICAL DAY AT HOME?

Many factors will determine the amount of time it takes any individual student, depending on attention span, breaks, and the time you start in the morning. Generally, you can expect somthing in the following range: Kindergarten : 2-3 hours 1st - 2nd grade: 3-4 hours 3rd - 4th grade: 4-5 hours 5th grade & above: 1- 1.5 hours per subject

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO TEACH EACH WEEK?

Classroom teachers teach the key objectives in class and assign reinforcement or application activities to be completed at home. Weekly lesson plans for both the classroom and the satellite classroom (the home) are available via our online school management system (Ren Web) prior to the beginning of each school week. The at-home teacher is encouraged to print off plans for the week and to prepare for the assignments in advance. Beginning in 5th grade, students will review assisignments through their Google Classroom portal and transition into working more independently.

IS STERLING ACCREDITED?

Sterling Classical School is fully accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, and accreditation divsion of AdvancedED. The academic standards for all core classes meet or exeed the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards.

WHAT ARE THE CLASS SIZES?

The student/teacher ratio is 10/1 for Preschool, 14/1 for Kindergarten, and 16/1 for First grade and above

DO STUDENTS WEAR UNIFORMS?

Yes, K-12th grade students wear uniforms.

DOES STERLING OFFER ATHLETICS?

Yes, Sterling is a member of the Austin Christian Athletic Association (ACAA) and competes against other local private schools. Sterling offers flag football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, cross country, track, soccer, and golf. Students in grades 4th-12th are eligible to play.
