The Greene Family

The following is from Alissa Greene about her experience at Sterling.  This is their first year here.

"Last year, Bennett, our 7th grader, completed 6th grade at a small private homeschool. He learned invaluable organizational skills and time management. Throughout the year, I saw that his learning style and ability to choose how he ordered his day enabled him to learn more, delve deeper, and gave him confidence to be an independent learner. He was aging out quickly and we prayed about where God would lead us for this year.

We heard about Sterling through friends from our old private school, so we attended an informational meeting last November. As Bennett reviewed the handouts, he pointed out the schools to which Sterling graduates have been accepted. He has his sights set on medicine and his eyes lit up when he saw that Johns Hopkins and Texas A&M (Jonathan and I are Aggies) were on the list. These are his dream schools. He was immediately sold and told me to look no further. I liked the structure of the day and the small class sizes.  I was nervous about the home days, but he is doing exceptionally well completing most of his homework on Wednesdays with Mrs. Stephenson.

Bennett is a competitive gymnast. Before homeschooling last year, he attended another private Christian school from  PreK -5th grade. The amount of homework every night was daunting.  Now that he has plenty of time during the day to complete his work, he never has to miss evening practices to finish homework. We are both so appreciative of this model.

Also, our family travels quite a lot. I love that there are plenty of breaks built into the calendar to travel downtown to a museum or fly to another state. Sterling truly fits our family’s educational and scheduling needs.

We also have a five-year-old daughter, Ayler.  She is in PreK4 at Sterling. We knew that we wanted a program that was very hands on. She is crafty, imaginative, creative, inquisitive and she never stops moving. I wanted to place her in an environment where she could explore and create. Sterling’s use of the High Scope philosophy suits her perfectly.

Our middle son, Callan, is a third grader at a small private homeschool. It’s a little crazy, but we make it all work. Our family loves visiting Colorado in all seasons. We travel there about three times a year. We also love attending our kids' gymnastics meets, drum and piano recitals, dance performances, and parkour tournaments.

At Sterling, I'm grateful for the education that my children receive. They are constantly learning and the evidence is abundant. I also appreciate the flexibility.  Most of all I love picking up smiling, happy people every day!

My kids love how much fun they have every day. Bennett enjoys the friends he has made, and all of his teachers.  Ayler also loves her friends and all of her daily creations!"

Mr. Greene is the Senior VP of Operations at the LCRA, and Mrs. Greene loves Bible Study Fellowship and being a full time wife, mom, and kids' chauffeur!  They also serve in the children's ministry at their church, First Baptist of Georgetown.  They enjoy traveling, spending time with family, and hanging out with their sweet English Springer Spaniel, Layla.  We are thankful to have the Greene family here at Sterling!
